Method
For the Buns:
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.
- Add milk, sugar, shortening, egg, salt and 2 cups of flour; beat until smooth.
- Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
- Turn on a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 4-6 minutes.
- Place in a greased bowl, turn once to grease top.
- Cover and let rise in a war place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
For the Filling:
- In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until browned.
- Add taco seasoning and a Tbsp. of water.
- Mix until well combined.
- Remove from heat.
To Assemble:
- Punch dough down, divide into 16 pieces.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll one piece out into a 5 in. circle.
- Top with 2 pieces of cheese and 3 Tbsp. taco mixture.
- Bring dough ver filling to center; pinch edges to seal.
- Place seam side down on greased baking sheet.
- Cover and let rise until doubled, 20 minutes.
- Bake at 400° for 8-12 minutes.
